Property restoration – leasing new life into period and historic buildings
With our proven track record in the repair and restoration of listed buildings, period properties as well as barns and country houses, our specialist teams have earnt an enviable reputation for their knowledge of traditional materials and techniques.
Whether conserving as found or taking a more restoration approach, we specialise in the external fabric of structures ranging from mortar repairs and lime mortar pointing to chimney repairs and re-builds as well as the restoration of masonry units within the buildings that we work on. However, our capabilities extend to the complete restoration of properties as shown in our success of many completed barn conversions, derelict cottages and transforming churches and chapels into family homes, holiday homes and offices.
We as a team, work as a main contractor or specialist subcontractor to companies and private individuals who require our masonry expertise. We have been called upon for simple mortar repairs to insurance claims for chimneys, flood and fire damaged properties and for more complex work such as extensions where the stonework or brickwork needs to be an exact match to the existing structure. Whether restoring or conserving we are highly regarded specialists in this sector and offer our services throughout south Wales and along the Herefordshire border.
Some of our most commonly asked for services include:
Lime mortar pointing
Traditional Solid walls work on the basis that moisture entering a wall is able to escape as easily as possible. Lime Mortars can readily handle this transmission. Our highly skilled tradesman hold many years of knowledge and expertise in this specialist area repairing mortar joints to re-pointing whole properties.
Chimney repair and rebuild
Often the most exposed part of a property, over time adverse weather conditions can cause the mortar joints, haunching and cappings to fail which allows rain to penetrate the stack. Combining this with winter months where freeze thaw conditions accelerate the chimney stacks deterioration, if neglected the stack will eventually become unsafe and dangerous. If spotted in time basic maintenance will extend the longevity of the chimney stack but from time to time it may be necessary to rebuild the stack in order to ensure its structural soundness and to add a lead tray if heavy rain exposure leads to leaks and damp patches internally.
Stone and brick replacement
Freeze thaw conditions and rain penetration can cause stone and brick faces to spawl leaving unsightly areas of the properties façade. Our in-depth knowledge of historic buildings allows us to sensitively source and replace the buildings materials whenever they’re needed.
